Three heats planned for “Dash for Cash”

THREE HEATS PLANNED FOR “DASH FOR CASH”

Residents of Bermuda are invited to the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club this afternoon from 2 pm to watch turbo-charged dinghies racing around Hamilton Harbour for $500 in prize money and a bottle of Gosling’s Black Seal Rum.

Principal race officer David Campbell-James plans to run three heats of races lasting 15 to 20 minutes between 2 pm and 3 pm. The top five from each heat advance to the final round, scheduled for 3:30 pm.

“We’ve got an easterly breeze today which is along the length of the harbour and not across it, so we should be able to run some fun races,” said Campbell-James.

The three heats include the likes of two-time Moth world champion Nathan Outteridge, Iain Jensen, Francesco Bruni and Paul Goodison, all of Artemis Racing, Kyle Langford and Tom Slingsby of ORACLE Team USA and Chris Draper of SoftBank Team Japan. They’ll be up against class stalwarts such as Giovanni Gaelotti of Belgium, Eelco Boers and Kalle Coster of the Netherlands, Zach Maxam of the U.S., and Ben Paton, Richard Mason and Tom Offer of the U.K. The racecourse will feature one windward mark, rounded to port, and a leeward gate, twice around.
